Duplicity - Chapter 5

CHAPTER 5

Abuja is a city known for its wealth and luxury. As one of the few purpose-built capital cities in Africa, it has a reputation for being one of the wealthiest and most expensive places to live. It is the administrative and political capital of Nigeria and is also a key capital on the African continent due to the country's geopolitical influence in regional affairs. In addition to being home to several luxurious apartments and high-end properties, Abuja is also known for its upscale shopping centers and fine dining restaurants. The cost of living in Abuja is high, with prices comparable to those in Lagos and Port Harcourt, two other cities known for their affluence. Despite the high cost of living, many people are drawn to Abuja for its excellent quality of life and opportunities for success.

As Ese stepped out of the car, she noticed a tall, dark-skinned man standing at the entrance of the mansion. She walked towards him, her nerves mounting with each step. She hoped that Lawal would be able to help her without any strings attached, but she knew that it was a long shot.

Lawal was a handsome, tall, young, rich man in his late 20s from a reputable family, and Ese knew that he could have any woman he wanted. Despite this, Ese couldn't deny that she was drawn to him. There was something about his charm and charisma that drew her in, and she couldn't help feeling a sense of attraction. She tried to push these thoughts out of her mind as she approached Lawal, determined to focus on the task at hand. She needed his help and she was determined to do whatever it took to get it.

Lawal came from a top-class family in Abuja, and he was well-connected and influential in the city. He was a man of beauty and grace. Tall, slim, and darkly fair, he was the epitome of charm and elegance. He hailed from a family of wealth and status in Abuja, a city known for its grandeur and rare beauty. His wealth and status were a testament to his family's influence and fame, but beyond his material assets, lay a heart that was kind and tame. Though he could have any woman he desired, his broken heart had taken relationships far from his reach. Lawal was a man who had suffered in love and had vowed to never let anyone close again.

As they stepped into the grand abode, Ese's gaze was captured by the lavish furnishings. She tried to compose herself, as Lawal led her to his study in his bedchamber, where one of his maids served her food, on a golden platter.

Ese couldn't help but ponder why

Lawal had chosen to host her in his boudoir rather than in the downstairs parlor, but she dared not inquire, for fear of causing a stir. Ese tried to focus on the meal in front of her, but she found it difficult to enjoy the meal with the opulent surroundings and the unusual circumstances. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, and she couldn't help but wonder what Lawal's true intentions were.

Ese's friend, Jane, had suggested earlier over the phone that she talk to Lawal about her financial situation, in the hope that he might be able to help her out. At first, Ese was hesitant. She didn't want to burden Lawal with her problems and she was also a little intimidated by his wealth and status. She wasn't used to asking for help and the thought of asking someone she barely knew for a favor made her nervous. But she was desperate and knew that she didn't have many other options.

She had to find a way to pay for her tuition fees and her mother's medical bills, and she was willing to do whatever it took to make that happen. So, with a mix of hope and nervousness, Ese approached Lawal and explained her situation. She begged him for help, hoping that he would understand her predicament and be willing to lend a hand. Lawal listened patiently, his expression sympathetic, and promised to see what he could do to help.

However, Ese's hopes were quickly dashed when Lawal offered to help her with all of her financial crises, but only if she agreed to have sex with him that night in exchange for his money. Ese was disappointed and a little hurt by this offer. She had hoped that Lawal would care about her as a person, and not just as someone he could use to fulfill his desires. But she knew that the world was a wicked place and that sometimes people had to do things they didn't want to survive. Ese knew that she had a tough decision to make. She desperately needed Lawal's financial assistance to pay for her tuition and other expenses. Without it, she wouldn't be able to continue her studies at the University of Abuja. With tears rolling down her cheeks, Ese agreed to Lawal's offer.

Lawal smiled, feeling successful in his manipulation. He moved close to Ese and gently wiped away her tears, pretending to be the kind, gentle man that he wasn't. Ese couldn't help feeling a sense of disgust and shame as she accepted his offer, knowing that she was essentially selling herself to get the help she needed. But she also knew that she had no other choice. She had to do what she had to do to survive and take care of her mother.

It was a harsh and cruel reality, but it was the one she had to face.
