CHAPTER 8
Ese
couldn't help but be fascinated by the evolution of Abuja as she learned about
the city's growth through its architecture. She was amazed by the city's transformation
from its "purpose built" beginnings in the 1980s to the Federal
Capital Territory it is today. The opulent mansions of Ministers Hill in
Maitama, the Central Mosque's golden dome, and the impressive NNPC towers and
CBN building all stood as testament to Abuja's progression. Ese was also struck
by the grand houses with cookie cutter architecture in the residential areas of
Asokoro, Maitama, and Jabi, and was unsure if they were all designed by the
same architect or constructed by the same team.
Even
older houses in Abuja were not immune to the desire for conformity, as they
were frequently torn down and rebuilt to fit this uniform style. As Ese
reflected on the city, she realized that Abuja had evolved significantly, with
its architecture playing a crucial role in this growth.
As
the cab pulled up to Lawal's mansion, Ese was no longer uneasy. She had grown
accustomed to her new path in life and was used to being referred to as the
senator's girl due to her newly found lavish lifestyle. Lawal never allowed her
bank account to run dry and in return, Ese satisfied all of his rough sexual
desires in the bedroom, from being tied up to being flogged and choked. She had
endured all of this as long as she could maintain her status as Lawal's
companion.
However,
Lawal was becoming increasingly attached to Ese as he couldn't get enough of
her. He was pleased to have a woman who could handle his brutal nature, even
though their arrangement was based on financial compensation. No other woman
had lasted more than a month with him, no matter how much he offered, but Ese
had stayed by his side. As a result, Lawal began to develop deeper feelings for
Ese and was willing to do whatever it took to keep her with him.
Ese
strutted into the mansion, her faded jeans and white crop tank top paired with
a stylish pair of white sneakers and a blue face cap. She looked fashionable
and ready for the business trip to Dubai that Lawal had invited her on. As she
walked through the doors, she was surprised to see Lawal waiting for her and he
picked her up, carrying her off to the bedroom.
He
dropped her gently on the bed as he looked deeply into her eyes, wishing this
was a relationship and not just an agreement. He couldn't deny that Ese had
found her way into his cold heart, neither could he remember the point in time
he let his guard down. Instead of their regular pattern of sex, he decided to
treat her as his queen this time.
She
had been looking forward to this trip to Dubai for weeks, and the idea of
assisting Lawal on his business trip filled her with pride.
As
they arrived in Dubai, Ese was amazed by the towering skyscrapers and luxurious
amenities. She couldn't believe that she was actually there, living out her
dreams and making new memories for herself.
However,
as the years rolled by, Ese began to feel a sense of pressure. She was grateful
for Lawal's help, but she also yearned for true independence and the freedom to
make her own choices.
It
never occurred to her to invest in a business with the huge funds she was
getting from him. Ese knew that she had to find a way to break free from this
arrangement, but she didn’t want to just yet. She felt stuck and helpless,
unsure of what to do about it. As she hoped through him she would complete her
nursing degree program and fly to the United Kingdom to practice. Then and only
then was she going to dissolve the agreement, He took her innocence from her
this was the least he could do. She taught to herself as she sat under a tree
in campus to study for her upcoming exam.
